Shed-Hunting

Last night my husband, brother, and I went up to BassPro in MA. After looking around and buying a few things I picked up the newest Gun Dog magazine. In it was an article about shed-hunting with your dog. Looked interesting. The more I read up on it, the more I wanted to do it with my dogs. Especially since the deer have been out and about lately! And the cost of antlers (as dog chews) is very high!

So, I'm going to start Apollo, Patty, and Molson as antler hunting dogs. Why not? It'll be fun and give us all exercise!

I've been checking out these two sites:

Will keep you posted on how this all goes....

LLBean Dock Dogs 2011

We had an absolute blast at the LLBean Dock Dogs event in Freeport, ME. Apollo did amazing!! He came in first place in the junior divison for the very first time- I am extremely proud of him! He also placed in third in another wave. What a great day! We recieved so many compliments on Apollo. He was also given a Veteran Dog rosette, he is, afterall, 8-10yrs young now!

Pet Life Dock Dogs 2011

We had such a great time in Maine over the weekend! My husband, brother, and Apollo made the trip Saturday late morning.

We first went to Scarborough to scope out the Pet Life (fka: The Kennel Shop) Dock Dogs set up and see our friends. Everything looked great and I couldn't wait until Sunday get Apollo jumping! Then we drove to Freeport to spend the rest of the day shopping at LL Bean, The Oakley Vault, Pet Pantry, and other stores. We topped off the night at Gritty's in Freeport. Jeremy got an amazing seafood dinner; a lobster and steamers! He said it was the best lobster tail he'd ever had. Joey got ribs and loved them. I got a steak panini with peppers and onions and cheese that was pressed to perfection. We had such a great time!

Sunday we got up early to head to Scarborough for Dock Dogs. Apollo was ready to go! His first jump was round 9', the next 12', the next 12'3, and the last jump was a big one- 13'7!! I was SO PROUD of my boy! His last jump also earned him a 3rd place rosette!

While we were in Scarborough I went over to the Avery booth where they were doing field test demos. I talked to some members and they encouraged me to try it out- I think I am! Apollo would do great (he wanted to go during the demo, haha!).

Overall, an excellent weekend was had by all :)

Seacoast Dock Dogs Fun Jump 6/2011

We got up early (like, before 5am) to head out to Berwick, ME for the Seacoast Dock Dogs Fun Jump. We really haven't been training too much for Dock Dogs, the weather hasn't been great in our area.

Apollo had a great time (as usual when it involves water, ha!). We even made it into the finals; his best jump of the day was 13'. We ended up placing 4th in the Junior division.

I was so proud of my boy!

Apollo, CGC

On Saturday afternoon Apollo and I made the drive to Derry, NH so we could take the AKC CGC (Canine Good Citizen) Test.

I was nervous, Apollo was cool, calm. I don't know why I was nervous though, the test is so easy! And we practiced and trained! We were prepared!

Apollo blew through the test with flying colors, he hammed it up for the elaluator and volunteers- whatta good boy! I was sooo proud of him! I was literally on cloud 9 on the drive home!

Drop-In Group Class: 1

LOVED this class! I cannot say enough good things about it!

We were in a medium sized class (maybe 10 dogs), consisting of GSDs, another Lab, Goldens, a beagle, and a spitz. The class was held out side (beautiful fall weather). We weaved in and out of dogs/handlers while heeling, practiced sits and stays and downs and stays, we heeled and did drop sits and drop downs. Excellent practice!! And everyone was so nice and the class was directed wonderfully.

I seriously enjoyed it and will definitely be attending more regularly.

Training: 5th Class

Last private class.

We went down to the dog park to proof Apollo's downs and sits and stays. He did exceptionally well. I was very proud- not surprised. We've been work
